First, you can get an overview of all articles published on the DLD live blog here.

After three days of intense blogging, live blogging(!), there should be a little resumée. Must be a personal one, naturally, although I aim to grasp some of that spirit hopefully many people sensed in these days of Digital, Life, Design 09.

In the position of being confronted with so many ideas, witted people, diverse subjects, opinions, trends and conversations I felt intectually challenged almost all the time. Plus, trying to find my own “art of live blogging” I was in a constant state of concentration, in search of the essence of the panels I focused on to cover. Now I feel tired and inspired, with the “Black swan” beside my bed and “What would Google do” on my desk. And with many images still in mind that make it hard just to say “DLD was awesome!”. But it certainly was.

We had economics, design, psychology, neurobiology, architecture, technology, education, fashion, music.. DLD was so diverse and at the same time deep in concern of the arguments of the people and mostly entertaining by the performance. And this inspirationally broad deepness certainly had effects on the talks in the hallway which I personal did not have. Because I had to blog. Because I was honoured to blog!

My thanks go to the whole team, all those fast and motivated people who made this conference so smooth, so you would not notice the organization, just the flow. And especially to my blogger colleagues Nicole, Oliver and Andrea. We came up with some nice techniques to cover people’s talk with live writing which include Google Docs, hand signs, twitter search, mobile photo uploads and the help of people who plug the laptops, know about details, give comments.
So thank you all, team, speakers, participants and especially to the cute coffee machine in the team room.

Before I go and polish my posts and clean up all the typos, here are my personal Top9::

9. With the Zuckerberg appearance I found the controversial twitter conversation as interesting as what was said on stage.

“To make this, I used PDFs from our architects as a base to trace all the walls on 11 layers in an Adobe Illustrator file, then exported each floor as an XML-based Scalable Vector Graphics file, each of which I ran through a PHP script to extract the object info and convert it to something I could paste in a notecard. Then I made 11 objects (the little cubes in front of me in the video) that scoot themselves off to a predetermined location, spew out prims based on the notecards, and send them to their appropriate positions. The next step, is to rez this on the ground, terraform, and then texture-bake every single prim…”
Watch Kisa Naumova model her working place in Second Life with a perfect fitting Daft Punk soundtrack.

I guess I do not necessarily have to say much myself in this case, just that re:publica is a nice conference about life on the net with a good vibe and surprisingly many girls (usually, you’ll only find guys on this web 2.0bloggingcastingmediachanging digitalworldrevolution things..) See some pics or read about it. Or ask me later when you see me personally. But the coolest, most instant and somehow closest tool to get an impression on what’s going on at the conference is the very twittery live comment tool of the lectures via SMS.

Wow, this is what I call impact, look at the Technorati searches to the right.

Papermint ScreenshotThe description could be even more specific: Papermint is in fact Vienna’s alternative to Second Life. The “3D virtual realities design company” Avaloop is creating a virtual Vienna, comicstyle; funny enough, Papermint will be 2D and has a very special look and feel.

Avatars look like little superheroes, very cute and indvidual. Right now, they are betatesting Papermint, I am curious how it will look like in the end. Unlike SL they want to concentrate on the communicative aspects of such worlds and not render reality. It is meant to be simple and easy to start. It did cost about 300 000€ devoloping, which shall be refinanced by user fees, in-game items and in-game advertising.

Read more (in German) at Futurezone (ORF) and Der Standard

Update: Here’s a (German) tv documentary:

(Disclaimer: I don’t think Avaloop ever WANTED to create something like Second Life but it is much easier to explain mentioning this successful -at least in terms of media coverage- multiplayer online reality monster..)
