Ever more often lately, I stumble across 360 degree or panoramic video and photo ideas, tools and gadgets. Now I even have the great pleasure to work on a project with that kind of technology together withe the awesome company called Yellowbird from the Netherlands. They do amazing 360° videos which are embedable and follow the linear story of a video along a timeline, and whilst the film is moving you can change the viewpoint of the camera, like looking at the sky or behind you. Their most successful video certainly is the one from a snowboarders perspective which went pretty viral which is understandable, have a look:

I first stumbled across them when I saw a 360° degree video which was embedded into Dorito’s YouTube channel and you could follow a guy into an underground club and watch it again and again to see what was going on behind you, e.g. Sadly, it’s not online anymore.

Today, I discovered a “throwable panoramic ball camera” which is filled with cameras and takes pictures once it’s up in the air. You download the pictures then and put them together with a software, the result is a clickable, zoomable and rotatable panoramic image. Nice! The first screen is the standard screen while a match is running. Before you have to logon, connect your social media accounts if you like and chose a match. If you think a goal is near you can push the bar at the bottom and gain lots of points if they really score within 30 seconds. The image to the right shows one of several questions that pop up during the game.

Corners and free kicks give you an extra chance to score (no screen unfortunately): Players decide whether it will be a goal, cleared, missed or caught by the keeper. At the end of the match of course you can share the result with your social media friends.

The impressive thing about the app is the real time factor. Not only must there be somebody to push in the live events like corners or goals but the technology must also be able to push these events to the players and collect inputs correctly, e.g. know if the player really selected a goal before it happened. The app was built by AKQA, the impact is evaluated by Blauw Research. Well done!

Tizi is a little box which receives the DVB-T signal with an antenna and creates a wifi you connect on with the ipad or iphone. With the Tizi app (free) you can then watch digital terrestrial television. In Berlin there are most of the major channels (ARD, ZDF ect.) on and some digital radio stations. Price: 150 EUR at Gravis.

Had it not been so cold, I could have even taken it downstairs to take out the garbage.

Die Trennung von Service und Person ermöglicht eine sehr einfache und dennoch granulare Privatsphäreneinstellung, sodass genau angegeben werden kann, wer man ist, wo die Dienstleistung angeboten wird und wer das sehen darf.

Wir sind noch am Anfang und können auch nicht so schnell entwickeln wie ein voll finanziertes Startup, denn zur Zeit bezahlen wir alles selbst und arbeiten neben unseren eigentlichen Jobs daran. Unsere Vision ist aber ein System aufzubauen, das es sehr leicht und angenehm macht, den eigenen Service darzustellen, konkrete Services für andere Vorzuschlagen oder Dienstleistungen zu beschreiben, die andere brauchen könnten und die es daher geben sollte.

Novation Launchpad – Ableton Live Controller from Michael Hovemann on Vimeo.

Here is the result of minutes clicking and trying out to build a nice loop with inudge. It’s a great and very intuitive tool, works like a classic drum machine, great to play around with!

On the right side, you’ll find six different sound libraries, the drums are at the bottom, next is base and some synths on top. Click on the matrix to define a sound in the time line, which represents one bar with 16 clicks. Go ahead!

Natürlich kann man auch eigene Audiodateien hochladen und im Mix verwenden und sogar direkt Audio per Mikro aufnehmen. Alles funktioniert wirklich intuitiv und nur ein bisschen rumspielen mit den Loopbänken macht schon einen Riesen-Spaß. Das Ergebnis lässt sich als Projekt speichern oder als Mixdown exportieren, auf den Myna-Server oder lokal. Und schließlich per Embed-Code verteilen. Das Demo-Video macht Lust auf ein paar nächtliche Sessions.

Putpat is another musicvideosite which aims to make it simple and easy to watch music videos like back in the ol’ days on MTV. A simple, flash based interface lets you skip videos, change channels, and love or ban videos. Based on this bans or loves plus on a tool called Veequalizer users can build their own channels which will then deliver videos according to taste and mood.

Putpat has a lot of videos, also more independet artists and a nice preselection of channels. It’s a simple form of web-tv and competes directly with tape.tv and MTV music. I like, it’s a nice way of background entertainment while you do other stuff like hanging wet clothes, tyding and such.

Some background facts: Putpat was founded by ex Viva (German television, later bought by MTV) employees, the musicmagazine Intro also is involved. Putpat will try to finance its service with video ads in between the music videos. Due to the complexity of the license and legal situation, Putpat is right now only accesible for German users.

Too bad it does not show the meaning of the symbols but it goes like this: the cat is for taming financial markets, the sun is for solar energy (althought that’s a little short, I believe we need a mix, which includes nuclear energy BUT with a clear stop in the future), the lock is for open borders, the flash for electric energy for cars, the book is for investments in education (instead of agriculture) and the syringe is for genetic agriculture (and I do not mean Monsanto! I believe public science must undertake a much bigger effort than today to find, also genetically driven, solutions to make agriculture more sustainable and productive.

How can this be done? Here is just an idea, feel free to discuss it, take it, rework it and implement it.

First we need a system for creating a unique link. That should not be difficult:

Second part is not so easy: What happens when this URL is used:
1. If there’s a lifestream ask if the user wants to open it – open it or

3. Let user flag, submit errors, comment

I know that there needs to be a heavy algorhythm behind, hopefully some day building on microformats that mark tv shows on websites as events with title, tvchannel and the necessary date and time data. Semantic web in use, not?

In september, Café Solvey opened finally and we instantly became friends with Solvey and her family who run the place. It’s warm and cosy, with very old porcelain, self-made cake, soft armchairs, a kids corner with toys and a fake, yet very well done chemin. And when Solvey asked me to help her out with a website I could not say no. Jimdo was the system of choice to build it fast and easy and when I see now that Solvey herself (who is not a big fan of these “computer things”) edits the events on her page and adds products, I know it was the right decision – Jimdo obviously easy to use. And I earned myself a couple of coffees, breakfasts and cakes!

Take a look at Solvey’s website, more importantly, visit the café if you are around and leave a comment in the guestbook!

Peter aka thewavingcat blogged live with a very fascinating tool called Coveritlive. It has a very smooth editor surface to write, comment and adjust stuff and codes which can be embedded in other websites where your twitterlike short news are flowing in and can be commented. He worked really hard in typing down the many informations from the stage, approving comments AND answering questions from a worldwide crowd. Respect! Also, Stefanie Suren and Andreas Schepers did a good job in guiding the audience through the evening with a plimpse of Hollywood feel: “And the winner is..!”

Was there too much show and glam and too little seriousness? Especially taking into account that e.g. the Chinese jury member was not allowed to travel to Germany or Cédric Kalonji from Kongo talked about war and repressions in his country? That less jury members and more bloggers should be invited? Yes and no I’d say. All of the blogs represent the myriad stories that take place every day, happening to all of us. Impossible to do justice on every unrighteousness touched yesterday. Plus: At least here in Berlin, while celebrating blogs as a great thing everybody should have some fun. But: More unknown bloggers on stage please, maybe jury memebers could be represented with video statements and instead the winners be invited.

Overall, it was a very nice event, not to crowded but packed with interesting people from all over the world. The decisions of the jury can, like all personal decisions, be questioned to if they really picked the best blogs but it was certainly a selection of honest, liberal thinking writers with loyal readers who write from their hearts and represent a voice for the people, often in countries where “the people” do not really have a voice. Browse through all the winners and feel inspired and read a transcript of yesterdays live blogging.

Hm, so what does that mean? Basically what you can with the little Arduino board is easily bring lots of input in and turn it into certain outputs. Sounds easy and maybe trivial but really is not. Because Arduino can process many different signals and trigger many different outputs. Kiss a door and it opens. Step close to a mirror and a video starts playing with the mirror talking to you. Turn TV picture into LED-signals. Connect it to the Wii and In general one might say it’s very nerdy and looks a little unready still. But it’s definetly the start into a development of selfbuilt robots and machines.

Below are some video examples. I particularly like the TV to LED part because it’s kind of what a friend and I did for a party once. We put 16 toilet paper rolls covered with translucent paper in fornt a tv and thus reduced the pictures to a 16×16 pixel screen. We taped it to video and had a nice party light installation. The posted below is slightly more elegant but, really, less charming.

I discovered Wordle in a Twitter-tweet by Steve Rubel where he compared Obama’s and McCain’s acceptance speeches with the help of this text analysis tool. It’s very open to interpretation indeed but somehow pretty and illustrative.

I compared two speeches of Müntefering and Merkel, the one Müntefering held at the Parteitag in Hamburg and one Merkel held to celebrate the Soziale Marktwirtschaft. They were surprisingly similar. A very interesting fact is that both use the word “müssen” a lot. Maybe German politicians should think about putting their messages into sentences with more “können”.

You can see Müntefering’s speech on the left side (obviously, Merkel wouldn’t say “Genossen”) and Merkel’s on the right side.

Took a picture but I guess it means work to adjust it nicely to the design. We’ll see..

Next task: Disable this autocorrect thing.

Berghain, Berlin’s most famous techno temple and house of the Panorama Bar, will open it’s gates on a friday night for the first time (usually it’s only Panorama Bar on fridays) to host probably the biggest Dubstep party on the European continent so far: Shackleton, Scuba, Appleblim, Skull disco, Mala, DJ Distance – find more about the artists, links and music at Grimetime.

Moreover, you have the chance to enjoy Berhain’s new sound system: Funktion One. Paulie at Dubstepforum says about it: “It’s got the best sound I’ve ever heard in a big club. Funktion 1 rigs all the way round… ”

Videoakt is a video art festival hosted by the organization GlogauAIR, a non profit organization founded with the intention of creating a meeting point between different artistic disciplines, important is their Artist in Residence Programme, lots of international artists, e.g. from South America live and work there.

Me, Stylewalker, have the big honour to create a musical scape for the video art, together with Steve (remember the House party, almost three years ago?) and VJ Hitektrash from 11pm, at Glogauer 16.

Volkswagen NL has relaunched Snake as a flash game. You move the car with the arrows, for every balloon collected you get a fan more and the snake grows. There’s also happing with the price and you have some apparently funny comments. Sometimes a band appears or some bboys turn up to dance. Very nicely done indeed.
