Pretty cool to see my name in such an arty environment. Let alone the question: What am I supposed to play?! Well, I have some days to think left, I guess. Suggestions for songs are welcome in the comments.

Leider weiß ich nicht was der Beitrag uns sagen will. Dass wir alle Angst haben sollen vor den bösen Datensammlern, dem Staat und Stalkern? Dass alle Druck verspüren sollen, mitzumachen im Social Web, weil das erwartet wird, obwohl es doch gleichzeitig so gefährlich ist? Dass Facebook, Google und der Staat morgen in meinem Schlafzimmer stehen? Ehrlich, die Einzigen, die mich je gestalkt haben, sind das ZDF.

Was nicht klar wird, ist meine Haltung: Wir haben die Wahl und natürlich muss man damit umgehen können. Ich bin mir sehr bewusst, was ich wo poste und welche Information ich mit wem teile. Facebook zum Beispiel erlaubt einem sehr granulare Einstellungen, wer was von einem sehen darf. Zwar habe ich mein Profil der Redakteurin Sabrina Hermsen frei gegeben, Hendrik Speck aber nicht. Dass Sabrina meine Daten mit ihm teilt, ist vielleicht Teil des Experiments, aber keinesfalls von mir erlaubt worden. Und da trifft wieder der Spruch: Die größte Bedrohung für deine Privatsphäre sind deine Freunde. Waren sie aber schon immer.

Wenn ich bei Foursquare sage, wo ich bin, hoffe ich auf Begegnungen mit denen, die mir dort folgen. Wenn ich auf Twitter mit jemandem diskutiere, hoffe ich, dass alle, die dort zuhören, etwas von der Unterhaltung haben. Wenn ich erfahre, dass ein Freund auch gerade in Kolumbien ist und ich den dann nach Jahren treffen kann: Finde ich das fantastisch. Diese ganze Öffentlichkeit um meine Aktivitäten im Netz haben mir schon so viel Ideen, Feedback, spontane Treffen, Verbindungen gebracht, dass es absolut ABSURD ist, Angst zu haben.

Schade um die Zeit im ZDF, die hätte man besser verwenden können, um den Zuschauern zu zeigen, was sie konkret tun können, als Gruselszenen mit Verfolgungen in der U-Bahn zu drehen. Schade auch, dass ich mitgemacht habe, das Gefühl hinterher war kein besonders Gutes. Nicht die Kontrolle darüber zu haben, wie man in der Öffentlichkeit dargestellt wird, fühlt sich scheiße an. Und darum sollte es doch gehen wenn einem Privatsphäre am Herzen liegt, oder nicht?

Der Beitrag ist inzwischen unter den meist gesehenen in der ZDF Mediathek und der Blogspost hier hat bisher mehrere tausend Leser. Ich bin froh, mit meinem Blog eine Plattform zu haben, auf der ich meine Perspektive auf die Geschichte darstellen kann. Ich bin auch schwer angetan von der Qualität der Kommentare. Und so hat diese Geschichte doch zumindest eines ausgelöst: Eine lebhafte Diskussion über die eigene Verantwortung für die eigene Privatsphäre und die seiner Freunde.

Hop behind the dj booth when there is a free space. You can search for tracks in a database and select it to your playlist. The djs play on from left to right and when you’re on, the song from top of your playlist is played next. Everybody in the room can click “awesome” and the avatar starts dancing. If enough people push “lame”, the next dj is on. Simple idea, well done, playful interface, like I said: great fun!

And there was this great moment also when one of he founders Seth Goldstein entered the room to see if everything was ok. We clapped his shoulder, congrats to turntable.fm, made some wishes (export playlist, real mixing) and let him step up to play one song. “Soldier” by DJ Cadim it was. Good luck, Seth and turntable.fm!

Tizi is a little box which receives the DVB-T signal with an antenna and creates a wifi you connect on with the ipad or iphone. With the Tizi app (free) you can then watch digital terrestrial television. In Berlin there are most of the major channels (ARD, ZDF ect.) on and some digital radio stations. Price: 150 EUR at Gravis.

Had it not been so cold, I could have even taken it downstairs to take out the garbage.

Say you want to stay there for some days and know for sure that there has to be that one little hotel or bed and breakfast, a little worn and old maybe but cosy and charmin. Where to find that? Searching the web is impossible, you’ll find tons of lists and hotel room merchants from hrs to tripadvisor so I asked around via Twitter and Facebook and here is what I got:

There are several hotels recommended, outstanding in my view (without actually having seen them) are:

Eldorado – Looks cozy and individual and is not very expensive. Already booked out when I asked sadly.
Charma – Recommended by a friend’s, cosy and not too expensive, but pretty far out I must say.
Hotel Ferrandi has a very nice website also but is unfortunately closed until autumn 2010.
Another great place was A room in paris with some very motivated owners who answer at Tripadvisor and very fast via mail. Only three rooms disposable so also not available for us this time.

Another great way to stay in Paris is to privately rent an apartment which works fine with Waytostay but even better with homelidays. Here you have a list with places with lots of pictures and reviews and direct connections to the owners who rent their rooms party to tourists. Thus you kind of have the feeling to live in Paris, cook your own food and be more part of the city.

Finally we decided to pick a place from that list of private apartments to rent in Paris which is owned by a photographer and looks awesome. We’ll see if it’s as great as it looks when we are there finally. Tomorrow, cinque jours de Paris, on y va!

Und dann muss ich fahren lernen: Immer die richtige Menge Gas geben, im richtigen Augenblick schalten, die Bremsen kosten ordentlich Kraft. Das Schalten ürbrigens auch. Und ich hatte mir schon Sorgen gemacht, auf dem Roller körperlich zu verkümmern. So eine Vespa ist schön, aber auch ganz schön zickig!

Und jetzt kommt die entscheidende Frage? Bin ich der richtige für eine Vespa? Ich habe schon Fahrräder verloren, Computer fallen lassen, ich habe keine Ahnung und auch kein besonderes Gespür für Bautenzüge, Gaszüge, die Geräusche, die ein Motor machen SOLLTE und was sein könnte falls er das nicht tut, nichts fällt mir leichter als zu vergessen, Öl beim Tanken hinzu zu geben, damit es keinen Motorschaden gibt und ich soll eine alte Vespa fahren? Sollte ich nicht lieber eine schnittige Hongkong-Schleuder nehmen?

Diese Woche streiken Schülerinnen, Schüler, Studenten für Verbesserungen des Bildungssystems. Die Demonstrierenden wenden sich gegen Studiengebühren, “Turbo-Abi” und vollgestopfte Bachelor-Studienpläne. Sie wenden sich gegen Bildungsprivatisierung, gegen Leistungs- und Konkurrenzdruck, gegen “Gesetze des Marktes” im Bereich der Bildung. Anders als in vorangegangenen Streiks haben es die Organisatoren dieses Mal geschafft, mehr als 150 000 auf die Straße zu bringen. Vor allem die Forderung, die Bachelor-Studienpläne zu überarbeiten ist immens wichtig.

Veranstaltungen wie die Fashion Week inklusive der Messe Premium und die jüngst nach Berlin zurückgekehrte Bread&Butter (die dies gemeinerweise direkt zum Start der Fashion Week erklärte, wie ein eifersüchtiges Model, das dem anderen die Show stehlen möchte) werfen dabei immer wieder internationale Schlaglichter auf die Szene. Sie vereinen Kreativität und Geschäft, die großen Namen wie Boss, Joop und Michalsky sonnen sich im Lichte der umtriebigen Berliner Szene und einigen kleinen Berliner Labels gelingt es, Distributionsdeals abzuschließen, um ihre Werke auch außerhalb Berlins vertreiben zu können.

Und auch wenn man auf keiner Veranstaltung war kann man im Internet eine schöne Bandbreite an Berichten von der Fashionweek finden, inklusive der so wichtigen Bilder und Videos. Hier eine kleine Auswahl:

Los gings am Mittwoch abend mit der Boss Show im Tropenhaus des Botanischen Gartens. Am Donnerstag mittag gab es dann die Show von La La Berlin, von der Mister Spex ein paar Brillenbilder gemacht hat. Fotos von der Show gibt es natürlich auch und zwar bei Lea Loves. Abends die laut Bild “skandalöse” Kaviar Gauche Show mit viel Haut, hautfarbenen Strumpfhosen, Fransen und natürlich Taschen.

Freitag abend haben es die Modebloggerinnen von Les Mads dann trotz Blogger-Aversität der Michalsky Pressechefin doch auf die exklusive Michalsky-Show geschafft und am Samstag war dann die bereits eingangs erwähnte Show von Bernhard Wilhelm im Postbahnhof, auf der die ausschließlich männlichen Models in Skianzügen zwischen Theaterlandschaften herumstehen und Faxen machen mussten. Ein durchaus heiterer Abschluss der Fashionweek mit Mode, die sich ausnahmsweise mal nicht so ernst nimmt.

Over the last year (2008), I was still working as a freelance online consultant but mainly doing concepts and creating ideas for the Berlin based digital communications agency PANORAMA3000 and its clients. I started to work for P3000 in december 2007 after having finished my studies in communcation and business at FU Berlin.

Working for P3000 has been great so far, it’s a very ambitious and young team, consisting of people who like exactly what I like: music, the interwebs and being creative. I had lots of possibilities to shape ideas and concepts for clients like Universal Music, Sony Music, arvato Bertelsmann and even the Golfclub Wannsee Berlin. Some of my posts here might have been work related but since most of it treats with funky web ideas and music, I did not take the chance every time to say I was also working (for money!) with that particular project. Sorry for that.

Next year we’ll be working for young socialists within the Social Democratic Party (SPD), short: Jusos. There are elections to the European parliament and the Bundestag (German parliament who then elect the government) coming up and we will be helping Jusos to tune their websites and most of all their online supporters management, using social media platforms and tools. You probably know that I did work for SPD with ABFace2net in the past. And that stylewalker.net always featured posts dealing with politics.

Of course I will present some strategies, tools and ideas here and hope you will find it interesting to take a look at our work and sometimes behind the curtains. Personally, I like the social democratic people we are working with and often, of course not always, agree with their political ideas about a social society, education, environment and regulating financial markets on a global level.

So, here is the plan: Propose me as a speaker! I did so myself already but I need a little more support, so I will post here what I wrote to Next09 and if you like it,

Which means that I should be spicing up the event with some funky music and community based interaction ideas I realized with the people from PANORAMA3000 over the last year that can be blueprints for brands to entertain people on the net.

Here are my ideas for a 30 minutes speech:

Germany’s Next Pussycat Dolls, Free-Your-TV, Kanye’s Love Bus, Berlin Calling – all of these where marketing campaigns that aimed to entertain users, turn fans into supporters and create attention and brand value for movies, music and entertainment companies.
PANORAMA3000 is specialized in community campaigns. We would like to present our overall approach of serious user integration and entertainment and show some illustrative examples.

Abstract
The web has become a web of creators. People blog, submit photos and videos, create music online and interact closely with each other. Community campaigns aim to interact with the creativity of web users and are successful if they bring fun for the users as well as awareness and support for the products, artists and brands.

Movies and music are products that are very well suited to user participation models and, at the same time, not at all. It is a big challenge to create web campaigns that involve users with their creations around artists and movies and on the other hand maintain a strong idea that binds everything together. Media products are in this case only an example of how brands can be entertaining in general.

There are some success factors like powerful seeding, ongoing dialogue between users and organizers, focusing on scenes and communities rather than on target groups and creating an involving build-up of tension that brings life and identification to community campaigns.

PANORAMA3000 works with social communities like MySpace, Facebook, StudiVZ, Flickr, YouTube, Vimeo, JoinR, Mikestar or Hobnox and creates own sites to combine different platforms – every campaign has a slightly different approach and thus different platforms, scenes and goals to start with.

Succesful examples are the ones mentioned above:

1. Free-your-tv: Users could submit short movies, the winning clips would then be selected by other users and a jury and published on the DVD of “Free Rainer”. (client: Kinowelt)

2. Germany’s Next Pussycat Dolls – girl groups submitted photos of themselves styled as Pussycat Dolls and invited their friends to vote. The group with most votes after 5 weeks got to meet the original Pussycat Dolls. (client: Universal Music Germany)

3. Berlin Calling: An independent movie that relies heavily on community support and is now (November 08) entering its 7th week in cinemas. Especially for international distribution the team relies on user feedback of the large groups created in social networks as in finding distribution partners, cinemas, festivals or local promotion providers. (client: Sabotage Films)

We believe that these campaigns can be blueprints for entertaining community marketing in general. Entertainment products are well suited, but so are other brands that would like to entertain and reach out to a creative audience (e.g. Alfa Romeo Mito campaign). We believe that a presentation could be inspiring and fun for all the Next09 audience!

Social Communities have grown rapidly over the last years, offering people the chance to publish personal information and connect with each other. The biggest social community today is Facebook with more than 120 million members. Due to the myriad possibilities to use Facebook, there many ways to support teaching and learning.

Facebook started in 2004 at Harvard University and was aimed at connecting students. Now, almost every American student and many Europeans have profiles on Facebook. They use it to share information, such as links, photos and videos, to arrange real life events and to communicate in groups.

The use of Facebook also shows the current cultural differences between teachers who slowly have to adapt to new technologies and students who grew up with digital communication. The differences in media use and learning behaviour between so called “digital native learners” and “digital immigrant teachers” are shown below. Understanding how to use Facebook opens up a way to stepping closer to actual student behaviour and to create a more appropriate way of teaching.

On friday, I’ll play at a private party at Pan Am Lounge – this will be fun, too! Pan Am Lounge is the place where pilots and other employees of Pan America Airlines used to hang out in the sixties and seventies. And it looks exactly like that.

One nice feature is the comment function where people can put a comment into the timeline of a track and thus precisely give feedback, e.g. ask for songnames in dj mixes. It has been the biggest Melt! festival so far with more than 20 000 visitors and three days of packed stages from rock to techno from bands to Djs. And things that grow hurt sometimes. It’s not easy to maintain the magic of a small festival with special bands if more and more people want to come and see it. It’s a big tease and a big challenge to let it grow, organize three days instead of two and produce a big show like the one Björk did on the last day, sunday.

So, many people were dissapointed by the organization, by the fact of having to wait so long to finally get in, to miss bands because venues were full or because schedules were changed or bands cancelled their gigs. And the heavy rain on the first day did not help at all either. But, there were so many great concerts! Like the dubstep parties with Caspah, Skream and, yes, Goldie (see picture above..), like cool and beautiful gigs by GusGus and Björk or the Battles (such crude music and such a warm audience) and over all to see so many beautiful and nice people from all over Europe having so much fun together.

Especially in the Melt-Forum you can read a wide discussion about what went wrong and what should change next year. The nice thing about it is that many fans utter their discontent very openly but that the discussion never gets out of hands. If criticism is too harsh or exaggerated, there will instantly be discussion members who would soften things up to a serious level.

by Jesus PresleySo, getting to my own story: Actually, one of the dissapointments I could have prevented myself: Hercules and Love Affair were present on the festival, only the crew was still on their way from Berlin and would not have made it in time. But none of us had the idea to let the band play accoustic or in any other way to with the help of th festival crew! Why? I don’t know. And things got so hectic that I did not get on stage to tell the audience that Alter Ego were going to play instead. Afterwards I did, but that was definitely too late. Bugger. I had not expected this and was not sharpminded enough to make the right decisions. Apart from that, “my” stage, the Gemini stage was great. Mr Oizo rocked, distorted massively but he and the crowd had a good time. Feadz lost a Flat Eric toy but got it back, thanks to the note we printed out which you can see here. the whole Get physical crew (Booka Shade and M.A.N.D.Y.) did a good job and people danced on the wooden floor. That thing, by the way was tricky: If you just stood still, it swung so hard, it made you dance automatically!

Sunday I was also responsible for the Gemini stage which organized itself more or less: Berlin Battery rocked several hours and did a great closing show for this years Melt! I’ll post a video later in which you can see that despite all the justified criticism this year’s Melt cannot have been so bad!

The Berlin street artist will not be present tonight when Circleculture gallery opens another streetart exhibtion, pushing the subversive power of free art in public places to another level. But many others will, so come around, 7pm!

Substance at Berghain was amazing – we waited for almost two hours to get in but it was worth every minute (Anyway, I like standing in line, it kind of hypes up the whole atmosphere and everybody is happy, once they are in).

Already in the ground floor, before walking up the stairs of Berghain, the walls where shaking. We literally jumped up the steps and minutes later stood right next to the DJ. The crowd was shaking from the soundscapes and booming basslines and especially when compared to Panorama bar’s (Kompakt crew played the typical club sound) ever-so-familiar bom-bom-bom one realized what a revolutionary concept in club music dubstep really is.

183 000 Friedrichshain-Kreuzbergers can cast their vote concerning these plans of a big urban development project along the river Spree on July 13th. The project “Mediaspree” plans to build offices and buildings within the next years and is going to invest more than 2 billion Euro. The cost would be the loss of a lot of public urban space.

Urban development is a good thing, in this case though, many people fear to be left without being asked. All what is special about Berlin, the little, independent, free and creative places, the bars and clubs at the river, I would even go as far to say, the creativity itself, is in danger here. The intitiative with the martial name “Mediaspree versenken” demands no more than to leave a space of at least 50 meters between the river and the new houses, space to be used for all Berliners and all who come here. You can vote for this demand on July13th if you live in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg – tell your friends!

Daher freut es mich sehr, den Text auch als pdf-Download unter cc Lizenz anbieten zu können, voilá: “Zum Beitrag von Weblogs zur Konstitution von Organisationsidentität” (oder als HTML-Version), geschrieben an der FU Berlin, bei Juliana Raupp am Institut für Publizistik und Kommunikationswissenschaft an der Arbeitsstelle Organisationskommunikation, bewertet mit einer sehr guten Note.

In der Arbeit gehe ich auf drei verschiedene Ansätze zur Definition von Organisationsidentität ein, einem marketingorientierten, einem sozialpsychologischen und einem systemtheoretischen. Tatsächlich war der Teil, die Unterschiede und Gemeinsamkeiten der Ansätze herauszuarbeiten, einer der spannendsten der Arbeit. Im zweiten Teil werden wissenschaftliche Ansätze zu Praktiken der Weblognutzung herausgearbeitet, die schließlich mit den eingangs eingeführten Theorien in einen Zusammenhang gebracht werden. Garniert wird diese Zusammenführung mit einer Reihe von Beispielen, die zeigen, wie Weblogs Organisationsidentität fassbar machen, abbilden und auch beeinflussen können.

Im Endeffekt hat die Arbeit mit diesem Thema sehr viel Spaß gemacht und tief drinnen ist der Wunsch nach einer weiteren theoretischen Beschäftigung mit der Schnittstelle Organisationsidentität und Onlinekommunikation immer noch vorhanden. Wir werden sehen, was sich aus diesem Wunsch noch entwickelt. Verlegt wird die Arbeit vom VDM Verlag Dr Müller, mit dem die Zusammenarbeit sehr gut funktioniert hat. Wer Interesse hat, seine Abschlussarbeit auch dort zu veröffentlichen (im Gegensatz zu anderen Fachverlagen entstehen für den Autor keine Kosten), kann sich gerne an mich wenden.

Für die, die noch einmal nachvollziehen wollen, wie diese Arbeit zustande gekommen ist, habe ich hier noch ein paar Links aus der Vergangenheit:

August 2005: Meinungsmacher-Blog – das Blog zum Buch, an dem ich mitarbeiten durfte. Die erste tiefer gehende wissenschaftliche Beschäftigung mit Weblogs meinerseits.

Oktober 2005: Identity of organizations in networks – eine erste Studienarbeit für den Fachbereich Netzwerkökonomie am BWL-Institut der FU Berlin, für die wir ein Blog bei der Erarbeitung benutzt haben. Es ging v.a. um den systemtheoretischen Ansatz zu Organisationsidentität.

Mai 2006: Die erste Mindmap

Juli 2006: Organizational identity by means of narrations in weblogs (July 27, 2006) – eine schöne Anekdote zu Organizational Storytelling in Weblogs.

Februar 2007: What is organizational identity and what have blogs to do with this? Ein Zwischenstand der Forschungsbemühungen, wo mir die Richtung erst richtig klar wurde.

Juni 2007: Es ist geschafft! Ein kleiner Emo-Beitrag nach einer durchgetippten Nacht vor der Abgabe.

Abstract
Organizational identity describes what is central, distinctive and enduring about an organization, its unity and individuality. Basically, there are three theoretic approaches that describe organizational identity from a socio-psychological, a marketing and a systemic perspective. Weblogs are a new, internet-based form of communication, frequently updated websites with possibilities for dialogue and interaction that are perceived to be particularly personal and authentic.

This work introduces the different theoretic approaches to organizational identity and develops a comparison of these. The major features are then to be connected to the texts, conversations, structures and discourses in Weblogs to show how weblogs can contribute to the constitution of organizational identity.

Ich muss Wordpress updaten. Vorher: Datenbank sichern. Und dann kann ich auch eigentlich gleich das Site-Design ein bisschen pimpen. Wann ich das machen soll, weiß ich zwar noch nicht, aber ich geh mal Schritt für Schritt vor. Bin ja eh aus dem Google-Index, es sind also nur Freunde hier! Also, ich blogge in intimer Atmosphäre normal weiter und versuche derweil, das Ding hier wieder auf Vordermann zu bringen. Seht es mir nach und stay tuned!

Krieg ich raus durch eine Mail von Google, denn die haben es eher gemerkt. Kurz gesagt:Stylewalker.net ist aus dem Google-Index und zwar fuer mindestens 30 Tage bis sich jemand meine Beteuerung, ich hätte nichts damit zu tun, ansehen kann. Alle für also, die einfach “Stylewalker” bei Google eingeben und auf den ersten Link tippen, bleibt die Seite duester, denn der erste Stylewalker Link ist jetzt entweder irgendwas japanisches oder ein schlimmer Trance DJ, der seine Seite seit vier Jahren nicht aktualisiert hat. Fuck!

Wahrscheinlich sind die Spammer, die wohl nicht auf der Suche nach einem optimalen Werbeumfeld für ihre Versicherungsprodukte waren, durch eine simple Sicherheitslücke in Wordpress eingedrungen. Also: Updaten!

Ich fühle mich so missbraucht!

In der Panik habe ich erstmal alle Passwörter geändert, was dazu führte, dass auf einmal die ganze Seite nicht zu erreichen war. Danke für die lieben Nachfrage-Mails! Das war mal ein schönes Gefühl.

So, jetzt gehe ich auf die Next08 und hoffe, so wie gestern auf der Facebook Garage wenigstens einen oder zwei nette Menschen zu treffen. Währenddessen werde ich darüber sinnieren, was das alles wohl zu bedeuten hat. Höchstwahrscheinlich, dass es Zeit für ein Update und ein neues Layout ist. Wer das hier liest, ist übrigens super!
