Sirius Mo & MC Ramon: Itchy / Cornerboy

Sirius Mo MC Ramon Itchy Cornerboy

This is one of the best music videos so far this year and one of the coolest ever, so it needs to be on Stylewalker.net. Being a huge Sirius Mo fan myself, I was happy to know he is releasing a new album on Monkeytown. This is his first signal and it’s a perfect fit.

We see Roman Geike aka MC Ramon aka Romano as a starring character, playing: himself. Roman is an entertainer by heart, be it as a rapping “cornerboy” or be it as German chansonnier (“Schlagerstar”) as you see in this video – he always takes it very seriously. This enthusiasm is infecting. In the video Ramon is walking the streets of Berlin, dancing in a washing saloon and visiting people in their gardens: everybody falls for his charme.

The video is also about Moritz’ aka Sirius Mo’s home, Berlin-Friedrichshagen (I think!), close to the lake Müggelsee. It’s a great contrast, the home turf and the rapper who used to be a Schlagerstar and the fusion electronic music which can easily appeal to anybody who is into grooves and melodies.

Enjoy “Itchy / Cornerboy”:

Electronic music scene in South Africa

House Music is big in South Africa. Resident Advisor shows a video portrait of the scene in Johannesburg, interviewing producers, DJs, party organizers, showing the impact music can have in a society. Watch Real Scenes: Johannesburg

I like the vibe in this video and to take a look at a to me so far unknown area. And I like the political dimension of it: “In a city still rife with poverty, house music can offer a way out. For our latest Real Scenes film we journeyed to Johannesburg and its outer lying townships, meeting the DJs, producers, promoters and record labels who are central to its story.”

Films I want to watch

Bildschirmfoto 2013-01-16 um 19.22.53

Here is a list of movies (especially gangster movies) I need to see. Partly as a note to myself, partly as an inspiration for my readers.
Watch more films!

Gangster squad

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and-if he has his way-every wire bet placed west of Chicago.

Lawless

LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.

End of watch

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña are Brian and Mike, two smart, courageous officers who through cop instinct bust open drug and human-trafficking rings run by the Mexican cartels, and now the rumour is that a revenge assassination has been “greenlit” by some high-ranking executives south of the border.

Silver linings playbook

After spending four years in a mental institution, a former teacher moves back in with his mother and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife.

Argo

As the Iranian revolution reaches a boiling point, a CIA ‘exfiltration’ specialist concocts a risky plan to free six Americans who have found shelter at the home of the Canadian ambassador.

The three best skater videos I have seen lately

Since I am producing a short mountainbike video with Lukas Tielke, Carlo Dieckmann and Filmkartell at the moment I did a little research on contemporary street sport videos and here are some of the skate videos I found.

These three all have some things in common which I also found in the many other videos I watched. First, they are shot in a very distinct artistic way where every frame seems to be composed and the after effects grading is highly important. Second they like to show street scenes, people and faces and transmit a certain feel about the city where it is shot. And third, the music is really indie-emotional unlike the sound of skating when I started 15 years ago where it was all about hardcore or hiphop. In this case we have beautiful sunsets and emotional moments of freedom up to self-oblivion.

Please enjoy these three pearls of modern skate and movie culture.

My new favorite comedian: Hannibal Buress

I stumbled upon a video with Hannibal Buress the other night and I was fascinated by the laid back style of this rising star of the US comedy scene. He is not as noisy and annoying like many others of his league, screaming and jumping all around, his magic lays more in the subtleness, the repetition and the minimal variations of face and voice. He has a rap infused speaking style and builds up smart storytelling jokes with slow confidence like a chronically underestimated stoned nerd with glasses. And he can be mean and nice at the same time.

Visit his website and follow him as he is also an avid twitterer

Summer hit Doctor Dru & Adana Twins – Juicy Fruit

Summer hit? Who needs a summer hit? We all do, to remember, to dance into the sunset, on the top a roof, above the big city, especially with such a shit summer we have this year in Berlin. So this easy, discoy, kind-of-familiar-sounding thing is exactly what I would play at an open air summer party and that’s the moment when everybody would get into the groove, when the nice conversations start over the second cocktail, when the relaxing kicks in after some hard days of work. This is the kind of summer song we want and we need. This is what it is all about. Enjoy Doctor Dru & Adana Twins – Juicy Fruit in this video which let’s you wish you’d be there. Ok, I admit, it’s a bit cheesy, but “I like it” 🙂

Buy the Vinyl on Juno or buy the Mp3 at Beatport or on itunes

The song is out on Exploited, my old buddy Shir Khan’s label. And here you can listen to what it would be like when the party goes on:

Why the bike lane is not always the safest place

A guy gets fined for not riding his bike on the bike lane and shows us in the video why it is actually dangerous to ride on the bike lane. I feel with that guy. Not only have I been fined by police once for that (at 4am, in Göttingen, on a totally empty street, 80 EUR!!!) I also happen to have had some bike accidents, including one where I was mislead (yes, mislead, not drunk or something, mislead!) by arrows on the street directing me directly into a metal barrier which was grey and thus hard to distinguish from the dark night. So I crashed into it and had my left hand stitched afterwards and wearing a cast for three weeks. So I feel with that guy, watch what happens when you take the bike lane.
