Here is a tutorial with many pictures about how to prepare a typical spanish tortilla. I did this for an interesting market and innovation research for Phillips who wanted to find out how people in Europe eat and cook in their everyday life. A very well done project, thanks to Funky Projects for inviting me! I learned the recipe from my flatmate Juan, here is another video with him showing how to prepare a delicious pasta. Unfortunately German users are not allowed to see it because of the music in it

The slideshow describes the steps: Ingredients potatoe, onions, garlic, spices, olive oil. Cut the potatoes in cubes, the onions and the garlic and heat up oil well in a pan. Frie potatoes, onions and garlic at hot temperature for about 7 minutes. Meanwhile stir the eggs with salt and peppar, about 2 eggs per person. Put the eggmass to the potatoes and turn down the temperature immediately to the lowest level. Cover the mass and let it cook for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile you can prepare a simple tomatoe salad with basil, oil, vinegar, honey, salt and peppar and cut ham and salsicha as side dishes. Uncover the pan and make sure the egg mass has become solid. Now be brave! Cover the pan with a big plate and turn around fast. Put the tortilla which is almost done back in the pan for another 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it slow down for another minute. The tortilla is now ready to be served and can be cut like a cake. Eat with salad, cheese, ham and bread. Beer goes along well also.

I talked about the club Week-end Berlin here already several times, especially this post has gained some attention. Now, after opening another room in the 15th floor of the same skyscraper, they did their masterpiece by turning the roof of one Berlin’s highest buildings into a club area. You have an amazing view over the city from there and it’s a perfect place to watch the sunset and listen to some housy beats.

So be sure to come early, not only for the sunset but for not paying 10€ after 22h. And bring a jacket or a sweater. Although it might be warm down in the streets, in the 17th floor there is quite some wind going on. Here are some pictures I took, after the break.

Man kann nur hoffen, dass Leute wie die Hedonistische Internationale mit friedlichem Weltverbesserung-Rave (Donnerstag, am Strand) das Bild des Protests von schwarz-vermummt wieder auf bunt schalten.

Yes, building stuff in Second Life can be a complex issue.

“To make this, I used PDFs from our architects as a base to trace all the walls on 11 layers in an Adobe Illustrator file, then exported each floor as an XML-based Scalable Vector Graphics file, each of which I ran through a PHP script to extract the object info and convert it to something I could paste in a notecard. Wow, so many plans and no time to realize it all. So, note to self: Do it, lazy boy!

• 1st: Integrate tags into stylewalker – I have enough content now to tag it more thoroughly and it would be cool to let people participate – suggest tags and if I like them they will be part of the categorization. Does anyone know a good WP-plugin?

• Start a blog about organizational identity and weblogs. I am writing my master thesis and should export some wisdom to the net.

• Buy a DJ! A friend is coming from Barcelona, Marco Delvai, you can book him for little money and big fun! Expect more information later.

• A guide to MySpace – people keep asking me what to do there and I should write down all the things I tell each one of them.

Yesterday I found a great place to eat lunch: Jobee on 3 Howard Street, Chinatown. An all you can eat but not at all shabby buffet for 4$! We enjoyed the good food and the chinese hospitality. A real Stylewalker recommendation! The only I did not like was the sea weed, but that’s ok, I can live without it. We had even free tee on our tables and two big bowls of steaming rice.. Continue >>

I am staying in Brooklyn, of course. You better speak Spanish or Chinese here, otherwise communication is difficult. I like the chinese egg custards and talking Spanish naturally is no problem for me. We have a train running 5m away from our window, running every 30 minutes. The houses are small, cousy. The best way to connect yourself to the internet in Barcelona with your wifi-able laptop is to become a member of the public libraries of Barcelona. Almost every one has a wireless router which you can access with your member number. It is totally free and the buildings are amazing, they give you a map and information about opening hours when becoming a member.

Right now I am sitting in the one in Raval, the Biblioteca Pública Sant Pau – Santa Creu in c/ Hospital. It is 15min before closing and they have the nice habit to turn on some music. In my case it’s Boby Dylan’s “Everybody must get stoned”.. Pleasent places, really.

.. on a sunday eve. At least if you abstaint from spending five pounds on a beer, the Yates in London’s posh and touristic west end (right by Leicester square) might be a good choice. We came their by chance and suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a young and hedonistic crowd dancing R’n'B in the typical music video style. That was around 10 pm, pretty perfect for partying on a sunday eve.

“La Paloma” is one of the most famous clubs in Barcelona, has been location for many movies and is definitely worth a visit. It is a dancing hall with over 100 years of tradition.

Still, evenings often start with an old-fashioned Spanish dance band and senior couples move cheek to cheek. At midnight the music changes and DJs, often with percussionists, take over with a funky fusion of soul, breakbeats and disco. Very stlyewalker-style, actually..

Thursday is Bongo-lounge which is the best day to go, you will find lots of students and a very flirty atmosphere. Unfortunately it is really expensive, but here’s a nice trick:

Go to the bar “Benidorm” which is really close and order a drink. Then you ask for “entradas”, most likely they will give you free tickets for the night. Once you’re in, be prepared to Barcelona’s high prices: A beer is 5€ (moreover: it’s Heineken..)
