Next friday I’ll be playing at an event with some legends from the 60ies Fluxus art movement. I am thrilled!

Come around to see Ben Patterson, one of the Fluxus founders, Iput, Eric Andersen and Willem de Ridder at the Schau Fenster Gallery at Lobeckstr.30, from 8pm. A good way to end the week and start the friday night!

The opening party is part of the “Fluxus Today” conference by the Akademie der Künste and the exhibition “The lunatics are on the loose“.

Pretty cool to see my name in such an arty environment. Let alone the question: What am I supposed to play?! Well, I have some days to think left, I guess. Suggestions for songs are welcome in the comments.

Movie about Berlin techno scene in the 90ies

The electronic music magazine Resident Advisor has started a new video series called “Real Scenes”. The third issue is about Berlin and its protagonists during the last 30 years. The film is great because it explains Berlins techno history in a very understandable way but also very well captures the feeling of getting lost and trying to escape from the pressure which always has and will be a motive for partying, especially in Berlin. The photography is nice with great scenes from Mauerpark, clandestine raves, clubs which have moved from underground to establishment like Watergate and Tresor and lots of squatted houses.

We hear people like Michael Hain (Hardwax), Tobias Rapp (author and Spiegel journalist), Dixon, Dimitri Hegemann (Tresor founder), Bene and Tom (Renate club), Sascha (Apparat) or Daniel Meteo from Shitkatapult. The protagonists explain the history of the openness of Berlin after the wall came down with lots of space and lack of rules. And also its transition from being a German underground city to a internationally known hotspot with all the good and bad this development brings.

I am going to Denmarks capital tomorrow and I have some things to celebrate. So I need your help to give me some advice about where to go out, which areas, bars and clubs suit best for tomorrow night. And this is actually a little competition, sponsored by Defshop. I gotta say, I reignited my love for filmmaking. Documenting nice stuff with my camera and cut it together nicely (which usually takes more time than expected). So, here are the videos I shot within the last three weeks: A video documentary from the Picnic festival in Amsterdam, an event for creative entrepreneurs with lots of fun, interviews and technology which I did for Netzpiloten. Last week I did an interview with Jan Kage aka Yaneq who is the mastermind behind the Party Arty series who saw its 33rd issue this saturday. And finally a clip from the Party Arty which shows a massive moshpit going on during the Foreign Beggars show while performing their hit “Contact”. Rotation Records becomes Rotation Boutique

Rotation Records has the reputation of being one of the most competent and friendliest record stores in Berlin, I already mentioned it e.g. in this blogpost about Berlin’s best record stores. It is not only frequented by many local DJs but also by electronic music celebrities from all around the world and of course many vinyl lovers who come to this place to find some of the rare black gold which is ever more pushed away by digital formats.

Now the time also has come for Nico and his crew to shift the strategy towards a broader product range to make use of the perfect location at Rosenthaler Platz. Rotation Records becomes Rotation Boutique: Vinyl will still be there, but there will be more: Music, fashion and art. Suzi Wong will be part of the part of the team from now on and take care of exhibitions, workshops and fashion brands like Airbag, Bpitch Control, Fairliebt., Ghostly, Hirschkind, Lumabag, Paula Terra, Human Empire, JR Sewing, Kantasou, Ken Panda, Keregan, Killertaschen, Respekt(l)abel, Rockwell feat. Parra, Team Brûlé or Thokk Thokk.

To celebrate this new step, this saturday, 26th of June, Rotation will reopen from 12am, at Weinbergsweg 3 with music by Tama Sumo (Berghain), Sven VT (Memo / Bpitch Control), Boris (Berghain), Hauke Freer (Session Victim / Retreat), Strobocop (Karaoke Kalk), Pick & Roll (for Heart & Soul). Der Online-DIY-Ticketservice Amiando testet ein neues Promoter-Konzept am Beispiel der zwei Lady Gaga Konzerte am 10.05. in Hamburg und am 11.05. in Berlin.

Das Paket kann sich sehen lassen: Als Promoter erhält man das eigene Ticket umsonst und dazu einen Link, den man an seine Freunde verteilen kann. Die Tickets, die unter dem Link verkauft werden, sind im Gegensatz zum normalen Verkauf außerdem rabattiert. This is a good line-up, especially Birdy Nam Nam who are a kick-ass, four headed DJ crew from France with lots of style and creativity. On four decks they manage to create entire songs, supertight and ready to dance. Their big achievement is to find ways in between turntable/nerdism and straight club feel. Together with Crookers and Léonard de Léonard this sounds like a night of sweat and fun.

Das große Abschlusskonzert des Bandwettbewerbs “Nazis aus dem Takt bringen” findet am 6. September ab 14 Uhr im Stadion “An der Alten Försterei des 1. FC Union Berlin e.V.” statt. Die drei Gewinnerbands COSMA, HeMaTom und Empty Guns werden gemeinsam mit vielen namhaften Künstlern ihre starken Stimmen gegen Rechts präsentieren. Das Konzert ist kostenlos!

Das Line-up hat es in sich:
Beim kostenlosen Konzert in der Alten Försterei präsentieren neben den drei Gewinnerbands Dein Lieblingssoundsystem (DJ Binichnich aka Harris & Sido (Host Mc), Rainer von Vielen, OOMPH!, Myriad Creatures, RENFT, Mic Donet & QuietStorm. Und Jeanette Biedermann ist auch dabei, na gut.

It’s going to be a pretty active weekend, I am not talking about riots. But there is lots of cool stuff going on in Berlin this weekend: Tonight, thursday, there is the money printing contest which will take place at Mariannenplatz 21 in Kreuzberg 36. (“Who hasn’t thought about it? The perfect solution in this time of global meltdown and financial disaster! We need to make our own money!”) Great, arty and subversive idea by Czentrifuga.

Tomorrow night, I will be playing at CRACKERS, Heidestrasse 5, a friend is organizing a party for friends, come if you’re a friend! (see the flyer to the left).

Then, saturday and sunday, I will be attending Politcamp09, a barcamp about politics. I’ll try to post an English summary here.

Tomorrow: Virtual Worlds Camp @Frogster IP

Tomorrow I’ll be talking about virtual worlds and social reasons for escaping into them at the Virtual worlds camp. The camp will take place at Frogster IP, in Hardenbergstraße 9a, Berlin, from 11.00h to 16:00h. I’m talking at 14:15, you can watch the whole conference on Hobnox.

Beside me, there will be other experts, like Computec Media AG CEO Johannes Sevket Gözalan, Sunny Park from Frogster Korea or Mirko Caspar from Metaversum, talking about virtual worlds, gaming in general, promotion and business models within that area.

There will be a party at night, too, where I’ll be djing at a secret place you will have to find out by asking the sausage seller at Choriner Str, corner to Schönhauser Alle. You can register for the event at amiando.

There is a big club dying and summer goodbye saying this weekend in Berlin. 103 Club is closing tonight, the Fire club as well, Ritter Butzke ends the summerseason with Grindcore, Teichmann und Dohse and we have the open air finishing with Karneval der Verpeilten on sunday. Final shows at Melt08

Melt Festival 08: Berlin Battery final show of the festival The last moment of a long DJ show at a festival often is a magical moment, especially when it’s the last gig on that stage. I remember Roni Size and Dynamite playing extra long into the sunlight, same for Goldie next year as last show on the big stage.

This year, Goldie again was part of a legendary show: Skream, Lowqui and the godfather of DnB rocked the Dubstep floor massively on saturday. Watch Skream crowdsurfing in a video below. And with this year sunday being the last day of the festival, the big honour to close Melt 08 laid in the hands of Berlin Battery who had several last records until finally the gates had to close and everybody had to go home, to sleep, or to rock on at the Sleepless floor outside. Despite all the criticism coming down to Melt! this year, with such a frenetic finishing, it cannot have been such a bad festival..

What’s on this weekend in Berlin?

Trotz des eher bescheidenen Wetters lassen sich die umtriebigen Partymachers Berlins nicht beirren und starten jetzt, da sowohl die Berliner aus dem Urlaub wieder da als auch viele Sommertouristen immer noch da sind, richtig durch.

Nachdem die Bar25 in ihrem vielleicht letzten Jahr des Bestehens durch Filmvorführungen, Showcases, Modeschauen und allerlei weitere Mainstreamveranstaltungen noch einmal besonders viele Gäste in den Genuss ihres doch einzigartigen Flairs und Ortes kommen lassen möchte (dabei natürlich auch riskiert, ihr freakiges Stammpublikum zu verlieren), geht es an anderen Open Air-Orten etwas undergroundiger zu:

Auf zwei historischen Kohlenfrachtkähnen feiert die Spreekindcrew in der Nähe des Treptower Parks. Bei Sonnenuntergang geht es los, diesen Samstag spielen u.a. DJ Gene und Delfonic.

Immer eine Reise wert ist der wunderschöne Funkpark in der Nalepastraße (das ist eigentlich schon Karlshorst), eine Strandanlage mit Bar und Trampolin und angeschlossenem Club, der mit einer tollen Anlage beeindruckt. Dieses Wochenende kommt die Connaisseurcrew aus Frankfurt vorbei und spielt durch bis Sonntag abend.

Der eigentliche Open-Air-Tag ist natürlich der Sonntag, hier treffen sich ab mittag Afterhour-Gänger mit Rave-Kaffeetrinkern am Nachmittag. Diesen Sonntag konkurrieren gleich zwei große Events mit Staraufgebot:
Our Park mit u.a Jesse Rose, M.A.N.D.Y. und Hendrik Schwarz zugunsten von Terre des Hommes am Planetarium an der Prenzlauer Allee, derselbe Ort also, an dem traditionell der Karneval der Verpeilten den Open Air Sommerabschluss feiert.

Außerdem gibt es am Sonntag eine der seltenen Gelegenheiten, den Überproduzenten Martin Buttrich (u.a. für Loco Dice und Timo Maas) live zu erleben, bei der Cocoon@Strandgut-Party am Oststrand. Mit von der Partie sind die nicht minder unbekannten André Galluzzi, Tobi Neumann und Der Dritte Raum. Vielleicht schaut ja auch Labelpapa Sven Väth vorbei.

Dies ist nur ein kleiner Ausschnitt der vielen Berliner Open Air Parties, zu hoffen bleibt, dass es auch dieses Jahr wieder ein Patentblau Open Air geben wird. Gerade die Patentblau-Macher legen viel Wert auf Details wie außergewöhnliche Orte und outdoortaugliche Soundsysteme – ein Fakt, der bei vielen liebevoll improvisierten Draußen-Festen oftmals auf der Strecke bleibt.

This weekend: Videoakt, Substance, Mediaspree

This weekend in Berlin will see art, music, politics and overall a mashup of all: Friday night will see Substance, the biggest Dubstep party on the European continent so far, at Berghain, there is the big art festival Videoakt on friday and saturday where Stylewalker’s going to spin, and on sunday people living in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg have the chance to cast their votes for or against the urban development project Mediaspree.

Substance

Berghain, Berlin’s most famous techno temple and house of the Panorama Bar, will open it’s gates on a friday night for the first time (usually it’s only Panorama Bar on fridays) to host probably the biggest Dubstep party on the European continent so far: Shackleton, Scuba, Appleblim, Skull disco, Mala, DJ Distance – find more about the artists, links and music at Grimetime.

Moreover, you have the chance to enjoy Berhain’s new sound system: Funktion One. Paulie at Dubstepforum says about it: “It’s got the best sound I’ve ever heard in a big club. Funktion 1 rigs all the way round… ”

Videoakt
Videoakt is a video art festival hosted by the organization GlogauAIR, a non profit organization founded with the intention of creating a meeting point between different artistic disciplines, important is their Artist in Residence Programme, lots of international artists, e.g. from South America live and work there.

Me, Stylewalker, have the big honour to create a musical scape for the video art, together with Steve (remember the House party, almost three years ago?) and VJ Hitektrash from 11pm, at Glogauer 16.

Mediaspree

Stylewalker at Funkpark tomorrow

Funkpark / Rechenzentrum is one of Berlin’s most interesting locations right now. Situated right by the water, a little south-east from Treptower park, it is a beautiful outdoor area, with volleyball pitches, beach, little huts, bars and lots of sand. And during the weekends, the party moves to the indoor location Rechenzentrum, equipped with an impressive sound system.

Tomorrow, I have the big honor to play some tunes from 18h, then watch THE game (Ronaldo, I want to see you cry. Again.) and play on a little. So, please come around, find a map below. You can ride the bike from Ostkreuz (10min) or take the bus 21 from Frankfurter Tor, Bersarinplatz, Boxhagenerplatz and Ostkreuz (exit Markgrafendamm, then some meters to the right towards the crossing) stopping at Köpenickerchaussee/Blockdammweg. What is Hit and Run Kino?

“HIT-AND-RUN” stands for meeting up at one known place at a certain time and then walk altogether to a secret location. So, if you miss the departure, you’re out! If you do make it, you’re in for some very interesting and inspiring experience. Like the people who organize the Hit and Run Kino. Almost every wednesday you will find an email where to meet up in the evening an then will be guided to a unique and special place to watch unique and special films. It’s great!

Like today: Meet at 21:00h at Hauptbahnhof – Hauptausgang Europaplatz and walk to a abandoned hospital. In the operating room you will watch “Komm Süßer Tod”.

Das BBbaby ist ein neuer Club, der temporär in den Räumen des ehemaligen “Schwarzen Raben” in der Neuen Schönhauser 13 residiert. Sehr simpel, sehr schick, sehr konzept: Eintritt sind stolze 15EUR, dafür findet man drinnen Kühlschränke voller Moritz Pilsener, Cava und Solan de Cabras (klasse Wasser) zur freien Verfügung der Anwesenden. Statt Bar, sozusagen. Andere sagen Flatrate.

Alles dies sind katalanische Köstlichkeiten, herrührend von der Verbbbindung der Macher nach Barcelona. Diese organisieren dort halbjährlich die Modemesse Bread&Butter und eröffnen zur Wintersaison einen Laden in Berlin, in der, genau, Schönhauser 13. Got it? Immer Dienstags, Donnerstags und Freitags zwischen 20h und 24h gibt es also Eklektisches vom Plattenteller und Eklektiker in den Sofas und an den Säulen lehnend. Diesen Dienstag (heute) gibt es Musik von Stylewalker (that’s me!) und Steve (somebody else!). Donnerstag den 24.04. auch (da geht es vielleicht auch ein bisschen länger)

New club in Berlin: BBBaby

Check out this new club in Berlin, opens tuesdays, thursdays and fridays from 18h to 24h, sometimes (well..) longer.

Located at what used to be the “Schwarzen Raben” at Neue Schönhauser Straße 13 and equipped with what you would call grandma’s old furniture it’s a cousy lounge for friendly people with fresh djs, like Oli deluxe (today) and Stylewalker (soon).

Hurry to see it because soon (july) it will be the clothing store “14 oz.”, run by Bread & Butter.

Reclaim the Sparkasse is a partycrew that likes to invade bank vestibules or washing saloons to celebrate spontaneous parties as you can see on their myspace. For tonight they found an empty house in Greifswalderstr. 218. Everyone should come and bring drinks, it’s free, there’s even a heating and a toilet and they will have good music.

Tonight: 5 years watergate

Watergate seen from the Oberbaum bridge, by FeffefActually, Watergate is one of the best clubs in Berlin. It’s a great venue, just by the river, you can sit outside or dance inside, in two really big rooms and, to be honest, it has a soundsystem that might not be as massive as the Fabric‘s e.g. but certainly stands the test against the other big club players in Berlin. Tresor does not sound any better, neither does Berghain, not to speak of Week-end, Cookies, Tape, 103, Maria or whatever, Watergate sets a standard in sound here. Not only that, the club is famous for its immense light show, a stream of LEDs that cover the ceiling and swoosh through the night.

Watergate lightshow, by SgisToday, Watergate celebrates its fifth birthday which is a long time for a club in Berlin. Last years fourth birthday was massive already and you better come early because although its a wednesday it is going to be packed. You know: in Berlin there is no difference in between weekend and week, the party people will always be around.

La caseta: Hottest place in Barcelona this summer

If one bar in Barcelona has made an impressive career this year it must have been “La Caseta del Migdia“. Even without being in Barcelona, you could hear the talk about it all over Europe. Also Bread and Butter had the final celebration in that amazing place on Montjuic. Situated on the south corner of the Montjuic Castell, you have a great view over the harbour on one side and over the city to the other. It is open air, they serve fine food and good drinks and DJs spin chilly rare grooves while you contemplate the Mediterranean.

You can get there, taking the 55 bus and walk upwards to the castle, In summer, on weekend evenings it used to be open until 2am, now I assume they close a little earlier. Here is another little article about La Caseta del Migdia

They did it again! They entered the abandoned parts of the Berlin Alexanderplatz undercrossing, put some music in and a bar and ready is the party. Hundreds danced happily.

Budapest and Sziget festival 2007

I am back from Budapest where I spent five days to see Sziget festival. And I am still pretty mind-blown by the incredible dimensions of this bastard of a festival. Situated on an island (“sziget” means island) the visitors find over 20 stages and countless attractions, shops, food spaces, recreational areas, fairs and secret plazes – it takes more than an hour to take the whole tour around the island. And the funniest thing is: People camp everywhere. It’s not like a festival with camping. It’s like camping with a festival.

The festival goes on for a week and there are people who actually spend almost all their time there. But the festival wristbands reveal many festival visitors also in parks, museums or in Budapest’s hot springs. All Budapest seems to be Sziget festival during these days, providing an impressive backdrop of art-nouveau, socialist and post-socialist architecture.

There is a nice blog, updated daily by Zeit magazine (in German) about Sziget, which I recommend, so I won’t be writing much here (to sum it up: We had good weather and bad, healthy food and greasy, good music and not so good.. ), just provide you with a short movie I cut together and some foto impressions.

How was Berlin festival and what’s going on this weekend?

I was a bit unlucky on Berlin festival, cause I had a little accident with my bike (looking forward to having the scars) and thus missed the best parts of the festival: friday night at Tape and saturday afternoon with Go!team, Peaches and Uffie. Friday afternoon and saturday night, while I attended, seemed to be a constant going away from some place rather than a coming to. And the shows I saw where pretty poor, Shitdisco, Midlake, even Tocotronic. But maybe I am a little over-festivaled, next weekend I’ll be in Budapest to see Sziget, let’s see how that works out. There are many videos on the Berlin festival on Youtube, unfortunately I did not see THAT killervideo I had to post here. Still, nice festival, lots of interesting people and overall a friendly new-ravy atmosphere. Sorry it took me so long to write about – it’s because of the fingers (blogging can be so self-referential).

Enough of the past – here’s the future. If you want to go to festivals this weekend, you might want to check these out: Schwedenparty, which takes place on an island in Sweden, very peaceful, deserted and nice (but clean up after yourselfes!) and the Goldmund festival. All electronic and with special hedonistic underground Berlin feel.

Moreover there are some good parties in Berlin, like today at Freakmode at ZMF with some Cologne funky-minimal experts like Marc Lansley (download Marc Lansley’s latest and really exquisit mix here – it’s funky, it’s deep, it’s melodic, it’s something you want to hear a second time).

While that’s it for today (friday) tomorrow, saturday, there’s a lot going on. Like the Mittekill festival (for free) at Eschloraque, the last corner of independent and punky culture close to Hackescher Markt, starts at 14h! Also, there’s “Liebe ist Cool”s birthday party in a very cool location in Friedrichshain

Eva Be listening session and Mädcheninternat

Two nice events tonight I would like to recommend: Delfonic hosts a listening session of the coming Eva Be record: „Moving Without Traveling“ (I wonder if the Jamiroquai association was on purpose) soon out on Sonar Kollektiv in his cosy record store Oye Records. Certainly, there will be a nice crowd and atmosphere. Weather is good so you can stand around on Oderberger Straße, drink beer, listen to music and talk about – hey, whatever you want to talk about!

The other is Sick Sinus playing at Mädcheninternat, a former Kindergarten right where Deep club used to be. Being around 20:00h at either place would be a good choice. Plus: you’ll get home at a civil time.

Best week-end roof event: Best Work’s Sundowner parties

Tomchak, Shir Khan and Ben MonoI already wrote about the week-end roof and that it’s recommended to come early (opens at 7pm, during the week they don’t charge until 10pm or so, during the week-end you’ll be leaving 5€) and bring a jacket. The view is amazing and if you’re lucky, the rest of the people, too.

This is the case when Best Works, Sonar Kollektiv’s (amongst other artists, e.g. Fat Freddys Drop) booking and event agency host their Sundowner Parties – on the roof. I was there last time (one week ago) to see Shir Khan, Ben Mono and Tomchak and had a jolly good time. See some more pictures!

How was Melt festival 07?

Picture by LotteLenyaThis is one of the articles I have been working on far too long. Melt’s been over for more than a week but I just had to let this monster out finally. Read about the best and the worst concerts, see the best videos, find the funniest reviews on the net and find out what Goldie did when his records got transported to London instead of Melt festival.

It’s interesting: Two years ago, I was one of a few people who wrote about the Melt! festival and one a few people who posted their festival pictures on Flickr. YouTube didn’t exist back then. Last year, there were tons of pictures and videos. And this year, there are even many, many blog posts about this amazing festival on an extraordinary site, not to forget the Melt-forum which has an impressive way of self organization – one half of the people bitches about prices, the growing size, quality of the music and the other half defends their favorite festival with enthusiasm. So I watched many many videos on YouTube, scanned Flickr and the blogosphere just to get you the best and most relevant material on this year’s issue of one of the greatest festivals on the planet.

So how was Melt X, the 10th issue of this tasty in-between indie and electronic music festival on a peninsula surrounded by gigantic machines? Overwhelming and amazing again I must say. I worked most of the time but it would be a lie to say that my job is not a great one. Taking care of the musicians as they come and wander around with their mouths open to see the venue and then get blown away by the audience. Few don’t get excited by that. Unfortunately Kelis was one of them. Let herself drive to the stage (20 meters..) and then sing like a man and move like a crash test dummy. Biggest disappointment.

And I felt a little bad for Snap! who had to play six o’clock in the morning after Deichkind had totally rocked out the energy of the crowd. So when “Rhythm is a dancer” set in, everybody just had to leave. Too bad, really. Opinions to Deichkind differ – some thought it was a little boring, the same show in the third year but thousands of enthusiastic people can’t lie and actually the band put more effort in the costumes and the show than ever. They always start many hours before stagetime and handicraft themselves into madness. I very much enjoyed the show this year again (which might also be connected to the many vodkas I had to drink in a very short time – boss’ order, what can you say).

“Melt Festival… OMG! What an amazing location for a rave/dance party, out in the middle of nowhere, amongst a heap of gigantic, massive, old, rusting, industrial, mining, digging, steal processing machines, all lit up with fantastic lighting, excellent sound and lighting everywhere, market stalls, diverse music line-up, lots of food and snacks, and cheap drinks.”

Ok, but who was the best on the festival? Goose definitely rocked so unbelievably hard that I thought the roof was coming of. Such a perfect mix of rock and electro that blew everybody away. Best sound award goes to Trentemöller. He just put out a gigantic blanket of bass and melody over the crowd and everybody who expected club madness was surprised and delighted to be carried away by such a dubby experience. Polarkreis18 surely lived up to the expectations being one of the most interesting young German bands. I just hope they don’t get tired of all the playing and always delivering such an emotional performance.
Best entertainer: Dendemann. Even for those who don’t like Hiphop he did a good show with lots of head nodding and booty shaking.

Two bands I did not see but listened to because I had to work, were Black Rebel Motorcycle Club who had a bright and fat sound but somewhat seemed to be a little fed up and overplayed. And then there were the Shout Out Louds who sounded like The Cure – great! Hot Chip surprised not only me but a lot of people. Disco-popping into the sunset. I personally very much liked Werle & Stankowski with their very unique mix of singer-songrwriter tunes, electro background and bluesy attitude. But there were so many great bands, impossible to mention them all. I subscribe to Tonspion’s view when they say:

“Wenn ihr wissen wollt wie der Jan Delay, der Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Shitdisco und Tocotronic waren, müsst ihr eure Freunde fragen. Sorry. Man kann nicht alles sehen, denn das Melt hat ein Luxusproblem: zuviel des Guten.”

But the unofficial, secret star of this festival certainly was Jake the Rapper. He played a live set and a DJ set one day later, he was always around, connecting and small talking and without him, I guess I had become target of a severe thunderstorm: Goldie in a bad mood.

The records and CDs of the charismatic entertainer, DJ, manager, writer and most of all godfather of Drum’n'Bass had been accidently transferred to London instead of Berlin (actually that happens quite often I must say). A DJ without music is a sad figure – what were we supposed to do? Thanks to Senuti and Jake’s Mac, Goldie could transfer many files from his iPod to Jake’s computer and burn seven cds. These he used for his three hour set and definitely made the people very, very happy. He was very happy himself, not to say enthusiastic: “You know when things go wrong like this and you have to improvise, that’s the best. Nothing new ever happens if you never have to improvise!” Said it, hugged me so hard I hardly could breathe and then ran off to meet Richie Hawtin (who he hadn’t met before). Climbed right on stage and hugged him as well. Very intense person, very charming and interesting. It was a pleasure to meet him, really.

Coming slowly to an end, I just want to pay credit to all the people who share their memory on the web, especially those who really made the effort to edit little movies about their Melt experience. There are many many interesting and cute documentaries out there.

While Justice/Simian Mobile Disco’s song “We are your friends” was the unofficial hit of the festival last year, this time it was Soulwax’s edit of the Klaxon’s song “Gravity’s rainbow“. I heard it over ten times in different locations, here, some people are dancing to it on the camping site:

Apparently it was a very cool party, so writes Miss Glitter:
“Wenn mehr Gäste ein Radio mitgebracht hätte, wäre es noch besser gewesen aber der Sound reichte zum tanzen und gute Laune haben. Als Anlage dienten vier dieser Boomboxen. Ausreichend für Grime und so, für Dubstep gab es ein bisschen wenig Bass aber trotzdem toll. Stattgefunden hat das Ganze im Untergrundgraben zwischen Haus des Lehrers und Alex. Die Grimetime Leute haben an der Stelle in den letzten 2 Jahren schon Partys gemacht, die letztes Jahr wurde nach 2, 5 Stunden von der Polizei beendet (war allerdings auch überfüllt). Dieses Mal neu: die Radioidee Idee. Angemeldet war die Veranstaltung als Filmdreh (oder so) zwischen 0 und 4 Uhr, die Polizei ist nicht gekommen und um 4 sind alle brav weitergezogen (wir nach Hause, auch müde). Geklappt hat es super und im August gibt es den Spaß vielleicht noch mal.”
