Now this is a flowing techhouse smart ass monster which also features some nice melodies and grooves. Highly appreciated on Soundcloud. Listen to it on your hometrainer!

Re:publica will see its year’s issue in April again, the most creative of the big German web conferences mottos itself “Shift happens” this year. I am very much looking forward to some inspiring days with relaxed people who talk rather about fascination of technology than business models.

Here is the official trailer which you can and should REMIX!

Patrick Gräser mix: Ckirtap Researg

February 9, 2009 on 12:54 am by Thomas | In DJ mixes | Say something!

Again, this is one rolling, tension building, ongoing deep tech stuff mix by Patrick, with oldschooly detroity sounds, hypnotic organs, dubby shapes and funky plonks. Starts off with his second production, the first release on Nights In Gale “Impress”.

Patrick Graeser “kcirtap researg” DJ Mix 02/2009 by patrickgraeser

Soulwax actually managed to put 460(!) intros in one mix and while it is a little blood pressure rising, not boring at all. It’s like a big tease, check it out at Nialler9. Krass, was für eine Arbeit.

Another not really great but funny mix is DJ RevoLucian’s remix of the Christian Bale incident which was uploaded feb 2nd and heard 1,3 mio times since then (wow, again)

Haven’t heard about it? Christian Bale freaks out.

TanithMix 1-09 (ZeitmaschineTributeMix) by Tanith

Another very intense and powerful mix by multitasking Tanith inspired by the Facebook Group Zeitmaschine in which pictures from 90ies rave culture are being collected (Suchtfaktor!)

Jazzanova Remix Contest

January 8, 2009 on 8:01 pm by Thomas | In DJ mixes, Music | Say something!

At the Webby night, an event to promote the Webby Awards which took place yesterday in Berlin, Eric Wahlforss introduced an amazed crowd to Soundcloud once again, putting it in a logical line with YouTube (video) and Flickr (foto).

Right now, there is a Jazzanova remix contest going on which also demonstrates the power of the Soundcloud API. It’s fascinatingly simple: Download the samples needed, upload the remix track and listen to all other uploads. It’s automatic, baby. And the outcome is of a surprising quality as you can hear for yourself in the widget.

Another very funny presentation about Memes and how they produce a life on their own from the web to the meatspace and back that should not be missed is by Peter aka The Waving Cat.

I would like to recommend this brilliant mix to everyone who.. yeah, well, to everyone! Because it takes the Dubstep thing in such a soulful and smooth way, taking so many different paths, showing so many facets of music which is funky, breaky, dancy, pushy, longing, hands-up, wobbly.. It’s 2Step, it’s dubstep, it’s even a little Goa.. And I am listening to it like the 5th time in a row, so it can’t be bad, really. Enjoy Shiva from (yes) Indianapolis in a mix from a local club, found via @dubstep on Surfacetensionrec.

Scuba Dubstep mix for XlR8

November 24, 2008 on 8:09 pm by Thomas | In DJ mixes, Dubstep | Say something!

It’s not the typical noisy toothsayery dubstap massacre what Scuba serves us in another excellent XLR8 podcast but rather a very deep and flirry mix which accelerates veeery slowly and has a curve of tension which is hardly noticeable. Still, this mix contains some energy which is hidden deep in the bass. I love it.

Check out the whole article and the tracklisting.

Ourmusicmixes is a great source for classic, old and new, deep and soulful house music. Tons of mixes are stored there, Chicago deep Stuff, raw classics, in the ultimate haven for all lovers of what started from disco in the 80ies to warehouse stuff in Chicago, to the big house success in the 90ies. From gay clubs in churches, from Lerry Levan, to Mr Vegas, Kerry Chandler, Moodyman, Basement Soul. Thank you so much guys for giving us music that easily could be forgotten!

Here is one very nice and deep mix from Chicago Deep:

Shir Khan’s XlR8 mix

September 29, 2008 on 10:11 am by Thomas | In Berlin Scene, DJ mixes, Music | Say something!

DJ Shir KhanMany, many tracks did he put together this time. My man Shir Khan managed to find some time for a superb dj mix for the XLR8 podcast series. Quite an output for a man who not only plays shows like a maniac, but also runs the Blog Berlin Battery with lots of exclusive Mp3s and hosts a weekly radio show, “Soundgarden” on Fritz.

The tracklist is exquisite, Shir Khan features almost 80 songs with tracks by Diskokaine, Tomboy, Adamski, Sirius Mo, Plasticman, Malente, Egoexpress, Surkin and many others.

Check out the tracklist for part 1 and listen to it here:

Check out the part 2 and listen to it here:

pimpinainteasyNow this is a great story. Here’s a kid, from a German small town, Göttingen. He becomes a dj and is obessed with training with the decks. He gets really good, becomes a champion. Plays all over Germany, Europe, US. Goes on a tour to Asia – and stays there, playing regularly at parties in Hong Kong.

His name is Kid Fresh and I already wrote about him. Looking at the pictures on the partyblog accompanying the “Pimpin’ ain’t easy” parties in Hong Kong, he deals with a very fancy party crowd there.

Tonight he’ll be playing at Scala, Friedrichstr. Pimpin’ ain’t easy? In Kid Fresh’s case, this might be untrue.

The awesome dj mix by Applebim, one of the heroes of this year’s greatest party at Berghain, Substance, which he produced for the RA podcast series (click for tracklist) is unfortunately not online there anymore. You can still get it, though, it’s a masterpiece! Download Applebim’s RA podcast at dropi.io. or continue to directly listen: Continue >>

This weekend in Berlin will see art, music, politics and overall a mashup of all: Friday night will see Substance, the biggest Dubstep party on the European continent so far, at Berghain, there is the big art festival Videoakt on friday and saturday where Stylewalker’s going to spin, and on sunday people living in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg have the chance to cast their votes for or against the urban development project Mediaspree.

Luciano “Podemos hablar tu y yo un minuto? Tranquilo? Viniste sola? Te gusta bailar? Vamos a bailar.. Ah, sí, me gusta. Tus movimientos me inspiran.. Como te llamas? Te podía ofrecer una.. Mi nombre es Buen Pachanga”. This is how this absolute Mediterranean set by Luciano starts, directly from Ibiza and you can literally feel the sand in between your dancing toes. It’s all about deep and a little trancy grooves, a slow bass drum and some screams in the background. Summer can be so untroubled.

Jack TennisPicture from his MyspaceNow Jack Tennis not only has sympathetic glasses but is also a great dj who likes to rock crowds. Well, you’d say, is this not something any DJ likes? And again, I say, Jack Tennis REALLY likes to rock the crowd.

Here we have some nice neo-discoish remixes by this handsome scoundrel from Berlin. Together with Shir Khan and Supermarket they team up as Berlin Battery, play at parties and release remixes on the net. So, for frequent updates of his work, check Berlin Battery.

Innercity 2005 2008In a techno city like Berlin, Innercity, a regular club night held by the Innervisions crew (read about it at taz) used to be the haven of groovy and soulful club music, from old to new, from disco to house. Headed by Dixon with many guests over the years, Innervisions at Week-End was a sure standard in the club scene for elegant party goers.

On Saturday January 19th, Innervisions celebrated their third birthday and at the same time their last party at Week-end. As a thank you, they gave away a free CD to all of the party guests – and it’s brilliant. Starts with very slow and dreamy funk tunes, moving into more minmal housy tunes, featuring I:Cube, Château Flight and Martin Buttrich. (The RA-forum knows where you might get a copy from the net), here is a snippet:

Also very nice in a very similar area nowadays called ‘bit hop’ is my man Ben Mono, who just released a new mixtape: Ben Mono in L.A.

Patrick Gräser: Breathless Mix

March 18, 2008 on 11:20 am by Thomas | In DJ mixes, Music | 1 Comment

That guy. Producing like a maniac (first record coming out on one of the hottest labels in electronic music: Liebe*Detail) and again here is one of his intriguing, take-me-away mixes with lots of groove and soul and deepness. Enjoy Patrick Gräsers “Breathless” Mix, soon he’ll be on tour with Theo Parrish and Robert Owens.

Get it at Stylewalker’s drop.io!

While I am almost off to Leipzig to attend the Lorna-night at Sweat with Patrick Gräser, I would like to recommend to all the poor souls who have to be in Berlin AGAIN my party list and this übercool, poppy and minimal mix, by Bohemiaz, picked up at Project Afterhour.

Justice’s Fabric Mix

January 14, 2008 on 9:27 pm by Thomas | In DJ mixes, London | 1 Comment

I wrote about Justice (long time ago, I think: before the hype) and Fabric in London, now here’s the perfect mix: Justice Rejected Fabric mix, via The fastlife (you can also find the playlist there). According to Urb, Fabric did not want to release this mix, instead they sent it to friends. Thanks! Very hard to imagine this soft, poppy discoish and very singalong style at Fabric but it’s GRRREATTT!
For all pop-fans: Tuesday at Maria (Berlin): Robyn!

Mikael StavöstrandTomorrow he’ll be playing at Tresor at the “We are”-labelnight. Check out what Suzi Wong has to say about it and listen to a mix done at Harry Klein in Munich [via Minimal Mixe]

“trocken, minimal und vorallem schwedisch wirds morgen im Tresor. Das Malmoer Label „We Are” ist gleich mit 2 seiner Artists angerückt, die heiligen Hallen zu bespielen. Labelowner Agaric wird zeigen, dass er nicht nur gute Platten produzieren, sondern auch genau so begnadet an den Turntables rocken kann. Mikael Stavöstrand holt live (und hoffentlich analog) seine Livepeitsche raus. Aua, ist das geil!”

Check out this and all the rest of the going out in Berlin underground party list!

“Grsr” is a fat piece of deep and driving, restless housemusic. Dark and creepy sometimes, yet swinging itself up to optimistic heights, scaping sounds with all preciseness and excellence of a club connaisseur who lets people travel with him on a journey at night.

Enough talk, enjoy Patrick’s “Grser”, finally, he is back on the scene with a new masterpiece.
