Sehsüchte, Europe’s Biggest International Student Film Festival takes place again at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen „Konrad Wolf“ in Marlene-Dietrich-Allee 11 in Potsdam. The quote from below stems from the Israelian movie “Roads” about kids in Lod, drugs and hip hop and perspectives for young people.

The rest of the program is highly interesting as well and Hobnox presents some selected movies from the Sehsüchte 08 program.
In general, this is a good time for film festivals in Berlin, Britspotting, the British independent film festival took place from 10th to 16th of april and now moves to Cologne. achtung Berlin, the new Berlin film award which focuses on young Berlin filmmakers has just finished as well (16th to 22nd of april).

On Saturday January 19th, Innervisions celebrated their third birthday and at the same time their last party at Week-end. As a thank you, they gave away a free CD to all of the party guests - and it’s brilliant. Starts with very slow and dreamy funk tunes, moving into more minmal housy tunes, featuring I:Cube, Château Flight and Martin Buttrich. Located at what used to be the “Schwarzen Raben” at Neue Schönhauser Straße 13 and equipped with what you would call grandma’s old furniture it’s a cousy lounge for friendly people with fresh djs, like Oli deluxe (today) and Stylewalker (soon).

Hurry to see it because soon (july) it will be the clothing store “14 oz.”, run by Bread & Butter.

Tonight, Portishead will present “Third” in the famous Funkhaus Nalepastraße , the concert will be transmitted live later by radio station Konzert wird von Radio1. Fast fans have the chance to get tickets at Spreeblick (maybe for an hour or so).

It’s fascinating, once I dive into this universe of shows I at least spend half an hour watching “11 Freunde magazine” or the very classy movie mag “Oh Gosh“. To kick off their efforts Hobnox organizes a contest called “Evolution” - until the end of January people can upload their creative projects in the categories music, film and street. So far, cool stuff has been uploaded but there’s still a lot to gain. After a voting a jury (e.g. with Moneybrother or Intro editor Linus Volkmann) will pick a winner in each category who will then get a package worth of 25000€ in project funding (like studio or postproduction costs etc.). Here is a recent video of some ionteresting projetcs so far, actually, I really like Pete Blume, kind of remind of Madsen a little..

Last years fourth birthday was massive already and you better come early because although its a wednesday it is going to be packed. You know: in Berlin there is no difference in between weekend and week, the party people will always be around.

Before you can go to Week-end to attend a lecture held by Sonar Kollektiv and Red Bull Music Academy about the last ten years in music business. Starts at 20pm and features Jürgen von Knoblauch, Claas Brieler, Stefan Leisering, Axel Reinemer (all Jazzanova), Steffen “Dixon” Berkhahn (Innervisions), Dirk Rumpff (Red Bull Music Academy) and Jan Joswig (De:Bug).

At Cookies Phonique plays some records so at least the music will be ok. The people will be especially ok at PartyArty in 103 (creative, unconventional, entertaining), Zementgarten will be open tonight, for free, but the best party I guess will be beneath Schlossplatz across from Palast der Republik, between Karl-Liebknechtstr. and Rathausstr: PALACE RESISTANCE vs. FREAK CAMP @ Katakomben Schlossfreiheit.

“Alles Paletti” by Tiny Domingos, Scotty Enterprise at Kunstsalon

Today and tomorrow will be the best days to look for interesting objects, it’s the last days of the fairs and hopefully it will not be as crowded as it was the last days.

The biggest and most prestigious event is the Art Forum Berlin of course. Expect prices up to several hundred thousand € for living contemporary artists like Bisky and such.

But as usual for this kind of big events, the “off-shows” that organize like parasites around a major platform are much more exciting and, since all of this event is about the money making with art, also promise a better return on investment - the artists are simply not as famous yet. If you really want to catch the big stars of tomorrow be sure not to miss Preview Berlin, Berliner Liste and most importantly the Berliner Kunstsalon which takes place in an ex tramway repairing facility.

The exhibition will run from 27th of September to 16th of November and is called: „OLD SCARS AND NEW INJURIES ARE THE BEAUTY OF THE ETERNAL NOW“. Let’s get hurt then. See you tonight.

So it’s all about concerts and which band is able to really give the people a good time and makes them tell their friends and come back the next time. Music is a service, more than ever.

A band who is able to rock it every time are Mike Skinner aka the Streets and his musicians. Wednesday evening, a sponsored concert brought about 1500 people to an open air venue and after a little chilly start everybody got into a great mood and danced and hugged each other to get a little warmer. Thumbs up for Mike Skinner!

Yesterday, I missed Polarkreis18 AGAIN! Damn, but these boys play and play and actually here is a little concert (again, by Sli-Fi, these people have a LOT of stuff on the net..)

So what’s the program? Tonight: Trentemöller at Maria and Sonar Kollektiv, at Tape and saturday Pokerflat night at Watergate and Sunday, well, if the weather stays as great as it did these days, there will be some open air after hour like the Stadtfest or the Karneval for sure..

Hi bio says: “Inspired by artists like Matthew Herbert, Akufen and Metro Area, Johannes began thinking about sharing his music through playing in Clubs. Nowadays Cotumo plays at Netlag, Pulsar, Pentagonik, Klangsucht, Süss&Sauer partys and at a variety of festivals and clubs in and around Berlin. After playing in London in 2006 he is aiming to Wales, Turin and Zuerich. This is the first of a series of three films I shot this weekend while I had my aunt visiting. Nice mix of underground and overground culture.

Tomorrow, saturday, there will be some nice festival at Kiki Blofeld (e.g. with Puppetmastaz) and on sunday big Patentblau Open Air again. Partying in dim light under a metal skeleton, perfect after hour feel, open air, from 2 am to 10 pm, S Bahnhof Storkower Straße.

So as a big thanks they put a veeery cool, surprising, trippy and funky (”rock the house ya!”) mix on the net, garnished with nice popy samples and fine melodies, broken with strange effects. Great!

Enough of the past - here’s the future. If you want to go to festivals this weekend, you might want to check these out: Schwedenparty, which takes place on an island in Sweden, very peaceful, deserted and nice (but clean up after yourselfes!) and the Goldmund festival. All electronic and with special hedonistic underground Berlin feel.

Moreover there are some good parties in Berlin, like today at Freakmode at ZMF with some Cologne funky-minimal experts like Marc Lansley (download Marc Lansley’s latest and really exquisit mix here - it’s funky, it’s deep, it’s melodic, it’s something you want to hear a second time).

While that’s it for today (friday) tomorrow, saturday, there’s a lot going on. Like the Mittekill festival (for free) at Eschloraque, the last corner of independent and punky culture close to Hackescher Markt, starts at 14h! Also, there’s “Liebe ist Cool”s birthday party in a very cool location in Friedrichshain

The other is Sick Sinus playing at Mädcheninternat, a former Kindergarten right where Deep club used to be. Being around 20:00h at either place would be a good choice. Plus: you’ll get home at a civil time.

Tomchak, Shir Khan and Ben Mono

This is the case when Best Works, Sonar Kollektiv’s (amongst other artists, e.g. Fat Freddys Drop) booking and event agency host their Sundowner Parties - on the roof. I was there last time (one week ago) to see Shir Khan, Ben Mono and Tomchak and had a jolly good time. See some more pictures!
